Front Page Farrell 09 Eps

(2 stars; 1 reviews)

(09 Episodes) "Front Page Farrell" was a 15 minute daily, "Husband & Wife Detective Team" Soap Opera/Crime Serial, broadcast by Mutual/NBC from June 23, 1941 thru March 26, 1954. This serial was a Soap Opera disguised as a Crime Serial, to coax the working-class man to sit by the radio, after his long hard day at work. Judging by the length of the run, the idea worked! Because this detective soap opera took place during WWII, many of the episodes were taken directly from real life, more specifically, from the Office of War Information. From 1941-06-23 thru 1942-03-13, Front Page Farrell starred Richard Widmark as David Farrell, ace reporter for New York newspaper, 'The Brooklyn Eagle.' From 1942-09-14 until a later date, the lead character was played by Carleton Young. Young eventually passed the "David Farrell torch," when he was replaced by Staats Cotsworth; Cotsworth took over for most of the remaining run. Florence Williams (and later, Virginia Dwyer) played Sally Farrell, David's office love interest and ".... the girl he marries on impulse, to save her from throwing herself away on a rich man twice her age.
