What Was It Like On June 6, 1944? Listen To These Podcasts!

Because these are recordings of the original live news reports, you can learn how the American people were informed of the D-Day invasion. In 1984, my Mom (now deceased) and I watched several TV documentaries commemorating the 40th anniversary of D-Day. On the evening of June 6th, we listened to a radio program that normally rebroadcasts classic old-time radio shows. On this particular occasion, the producers of that program decided to rebroadcast excerpts of radio news coverage of that day. After listening to it, my Mom and I agreed that this was the best retrospective of D-Day we had seen or heard, since it, by playing back the original radio news coverage, allowed us to experience June 6, 1944 in a way none of the TV specials (not even the rerun of the 1964 interview Walter Cronkite taped with General Eisenhower in Normandy) could.

These broadcasts really set the scene for me, I have seen many newsreels of D Day which have added commentary, usually done in a studio days later. These are "on the day" and in my opinion show the real feelings of the contributors. I would love to hear ( with translation) the Third Reichs version of what was happening on 06.06.1944....is it out there?

Now we can hear exactly what went on on D-Day, at least what was reported on the radio by NBC. It was good to hear Norman Vincent Peale say a prayer for our troops. Minute by minute, hour by hour, you can feel the excitement as America and the world look forward to an end to this war. Thanks for uploading!!
Comparison to CBS Version

At first listen, I preferred the CBS 24-hour newscast. For immediacy, the tension in the CBS newsroom is unsurpassed leading up to Communique #1. From that point, the NBC broadcast is better in content and in clarity. Both are some of the best audio available on Archive.org. Thanks very much to the individuals who uploaded this historic material.

It seems that the above time period is missing. I would assume that NBC covered the time (wouldn't be local). Does anyone know what was on during that time (on 6/6/44) and if i can find it? Thnaks Joe joeybabe25@gmail.com
