Book 1 of The Saramond Quests

Dragon pee really stinks.

With that bit of cautionary advice, master dragonslayer Davian begins his tale.

Davian is a Third Level Master of The Order, a group of men who alone have the power to battle the most fearsome creatures on all of Saramond. For thousands of years, the brothers of The Order have protected their world.

Now something has upset the balance of power between man and dragon, and Davian must face what appears to be a dragon that cannot be seen.

But Davian is losing his grip on reality — and the fate of the world rests with a stable hand, an underfed priest, and a gardener from beyond the stars.

re: other reviews: How is that Christian?

(4.5 stars)

The philosophy discussed in the epilogue could come from any religion or theology, even from a belief system without one supreme being like karma. The concept of Providence is not exclusively Christian any more than Peace or Charity. Dragons could even have evolved through natural selection like everything else. Good story!

My reaction to this book was similar to Jim's (above: http://www.podiobooks.com/blog/2008/10/13/iron-dragons-book-1-the-saramond-quests/#comment-270764): The characters felt thin, lacking in emotional depth. Their language and word usage alternated between almost-modern and passably-early-queens-english. I had a hard time identifying with any of the characters, probably because they felt underdeveloped. As for the backdrop for ...

Love the story and its telling. Derek Gilbert does an excellent job of delivering this tale with passion. I have discovered Podiobooks just a couple of months ago. I was fortunate to find Nathan Lowell first and I guess I hold others to his caliber of story and narration (sorry). ...

Made it through the first 7 episodes. Great start, then it lost me. Our hero is fighting dragons. Then, for about one episode he gets kidnapped so he can help steal the king's gold. ??? It just didn't make any sense. And there's a dog thrown in there for some ...

An enjoyable story...well told...BUT where are the following books? If this is Book 1, that certainly leads the reader to believe there are, or will be, more in the series. Here we are, years after the original publishing date, and I can find no follow on books in this series. ...

Well written, imaginative and entertaining. The absence of gratuitos profanity is quite refreshing, but the "must have" super femme character with it's tired narrative ruined everything. The moment she reappeared, I knew how the rest of the story would develope and lost all interest.

great ride with theological undertones

Fantastic story, with noticeable theological undertones. Well, at least to me. I am a seminarian by the way. --I am now upset because I find he has not written the sequel to this adventure.
