Danny's father goes into a hospital for a while, leaving Danny to live alone in a trailer with no money and little food. That's when the coyotes start coming to visit. Coyotes are tricksters. Coyotes are clever survivors. So is Danny as he learns what kind of human being he truly is — and what kind he ain't.

DANNY AIN'T is part of the San Puerco Trilogy, three award-winning novels that have been loved by adults and children alike, about the adventures of three boys in the scrappy little town of San Puerco, California. Other titles in the trilogy are BOONE BARNABY and BABCOCK.

"A finely crafted story. The characters are enormously appealing." — School Library Journal

"The author of THE ADVENTURES OF BOONE BARNABY returns to the small town of San Puerco for another engaging, well-told tale." — Kirkus Reviews

"Brave, compassionate Danny, who embraces his incorrect grammar as symbolic of his identity, is worth cheering for." —Publishers Weekly

DANNY AIN'T won the BABRA Award (Bay Area Book Reviewers Association) as Best Book for Children in 1992

Danny is

(5 stars)

What a fantastic story, I couldn't help but get so engrossed in it that I felt genuine empathy for young Danny at times. wondering why the adults around him couldn't see how much harder his life had become. The only one to really see was the one who's lifestyle was the complete opposite to his own. The reader and author did such a great job of fetching this story to life that I felt an assortment of emotions towards each character, from pity and love, to anger and dislike. (the local community drug dealer ) this is the 2nd in this trilogy that I've listened to and I can't wait to not only listen to the 3rd, but to find more from this author. What more can I say without spoiling the story other than I highly recommend this. This coming from an avid reader who reads several books a week about is very high praise indeed for this author, who until recently I'd never heard of. He definitely deserves the 5 stars I've given him.
