The Best Laid Plans
Terry Fallis
Read by Terry Fallis
"The Best Laid Plans" is a satirical novel of Canadian politics written by Terry Fallis. It recounts the unlikely and amusing alliance between a 30-something burnt out, jaded political staffer, and an older, cantankerous, engineering professor. Driven by a federal election and the life of the resulting minority conservative government, the novel moves between the small town of Cumberland, Ontario on the shores of the Ottawa River, and the nation's capital. While the characters and their exploits are often comical, serious ideas on politics and democracy underlie the fun. For more information on the novel and author, visit www.terryfallis.com.

I cannot believe it took me this long to read this book! I think it was the politics that threw me off from reading it. You see, I was not a fan of politics. that is, until now! I actually got emotional at the End of This Book and that, if anyone knows me, does not ever happen! well done Terry!

Many thanks, Paul, for your kind words. The sequel to The Best Laid Plans will be published in Canada by McClelland & Stewart in August or September of 2010. It's called The High Road. I'm not sure they'll let me podcast the entire novel but I'll at least podcast excerpts. ...

Terry, I bought this book for my Kobo since I respect the whole 'Canada Reads' series so much. I thought I would sail right through it so I could begin another book. I don't consider myself political to a great degree and even though I live in Calgary now, I ...

It's Oct. 15, 2010 & here in the USA we are in the midst of a bizarre Liberal political mess! Listening to Best Laid Plans has let me laugh at politicians again! It is a very pleasant diversion from the nonsense that is really happening in politics here!

Thanks so much Dorie. How wonderful to hear from you. I'm glad you enjoyed the novel and I certainly hope you find the same satisfaction in The High Road when it is published in September 2010. Terry
