Alan joins his brother Dan’s private investigation agency in the hopes of reconnecting with his older sibling. Although he doesn’t know the first thing about private investigation and he’s hopeless with a gun, Dan convinces him to help him out on a covert mission for Dan’s former commanding officer.

But the mission is far more dangerous than either brother realizes. The officer and his soldiers are seeking to recover an insidious device used to manipulate Earth’s history. Humanity is under attack...and doesn’t even realize it.

Alan and Dan are ill-equipped to face this invisible invasion...but they’re the only chance Earth has to survive.

The book starts great and had me hooked almost immediately. Then the story ends abruptly after part 14. Clearly there is more to the story but it’s not available. I get that the author may be looking to get a reader hooked then hoping they will pay to get the rest of the story but I also think it’s a little misleading to do that without warning the reader ahead of time. From what I heard this was easily a 4-5 star book if it were all on here for me to finish but I can’t give a full rating to half a story so it gets a half rating.

The old saying is true...

I've bypassed Soulburner on numerous occasions just because of the cover art. After reading Quick Silver I searched for more from the author and am glad I gave this one a shot. Mr. Mathias did it for me again. I like time travel stories and really enjoyed his take on it, especially his unique way of limiting how much time travel the hero's can do. Also I really like his narration, some authors try to be Mel Blanc with their character voices and it tends to pull me out of the story. I find his more subtle style less jarring.

Another excellent book!

In the beginning you will hate Allen, he's stupid, naive, week & generally pathetic & annoying but fear not that changes so don't let it put you off of another incredible book by this author. His plot & story lines are rich & consuming with twists & turns that leave you eagerly wanting more. To match his excellent writing his narration is amongst the best & FAR better than most authors that read their own books. If he needs extra $he could easily farm out his talent. I'm desperate for his next work. Thank you so much, I will definitely donate.

WOW WHAT A GREAT STORY, way to much about this book it's author's way of weighting and bringing this story to life, I enjoyed that explaining them would be nearly as long as the story lol, so sit down buckle in and hold on. the adventure begins with pushing the button so what are you waiting for ? but I have one complaint the story is over way too soon this should be the 1st of several adventure, it's to good to end so soon. thanks to the author and again WOW !! Herman from manchester Tenn.

decent listen

Quite an interesting concept that is delivered in this book and it is certainly worth a listen. Even though the book is delivered by the author, he does a reasonably good job of it. Normally when this is done, it detracts from the story but not in this case. Not sure what happened at the end as I couldn’t play the last bit. This also happened in one of his Other books but I’m not sure why. Would recommend giving it a try.

Great story, keeps you guessing.

The author has a great imagination, he did a great job with his storyline, and plot; it keeps you guessing. Didn't care for some of the language, but was warned ahead of time about it. The author did a great job reading, and making his story come alive. I look forward to reading more of his work.

Interesting Concept

(4.5 stars)

Really enjoyed the book and the unusual storyline. Great reading by Derek Mathias. I like books with depth and out of the box thinking. Good strong and interesting main character. Unexpected twists. The only distraction was the unnecessary profanity. In the future I feel it will date the piece and is offensive other than that it is is worth reading.

This started out a little slow and confusing, but really turned it up by the end. There are a few character tropes, but also some very imaginative takes on the time-traveler and alien takeover genres. Overall I had a lot of fun listening to this book, and I am going to see what else Mr. Mathais has written.
