The Colors of Space

Bart Steele, Space Academy graduate, is on his way home to his father's business - he runs a fleet of spaceships for interstellar travel. The secret for fast interstellar travel though is still tightly kept by the alien race Lhari. An agreement between humans and Lhari has been made that permits humans only to travel in cold sleep as passengers aboard Lhari vessels as to not reveal the secret.

Some humans – the Mentorians - have had a slight genetic shift which enhanced their vision to withstand the light levels that the aliens Lhari use and live in. Mentorians perceive a wider optical spectrum than ordinary humans – some can see the ‘eighth color’. Mentorians act as translators, middleman and interpreters between the two races. But their ability sets them apart from the rest of humanity. Bart, half Mentorian, has this ability.

Bart, surgically altering his appearance to hire as a Lhari on a homeworld bound Lhari vessel, attempts to steal the secret of the Warp Drive - an attempt on which countless humans spies have failed before. (Summary by Stephan Möbius) (4 hr 59 min)

Please know that the ignorant comments made on this site represent an insignificant speck. The overwhelming majority think the world of you. We know you are volunteers giving of your time and energy to perfect strangers. If that isn't the definition of nice in the dictionary, it should be. Do the churls think they're reviewing a BBC Audiobooks® on audible.com? To say a LibriVox reader shouldn't be ---allowed- to narrate? Maybe one of these (in my no-longer secret opinion) sub-species Homo saps would like to be the Czar of that. Seriously, if you are the author of one of these boners, your ignorance is showing. Why not rehabilitate yourself if you now see your mistake? Edit that faux pas! I am tired of the smell. The rest of you are real trolls who I hope volunteers know to tune out. Their punishment lies in being who they are: one in three americans are sociopaths, born without a conscience and lacking normal emotions. Can you imagine anything worse?

Some of the chapters of this story are read by someone with a heavy accent that I had issues understanding. A new version has been recorded, and it is MUCH better. The story is a good one, FWIW, this recording is just hard to follow.
