Enjoyable

Arnold Bennett is one of my favorite authors, and this was an interesting study in human nature. I agree that Simon Evers is an excellent reader. And yet, the final half-dozen chapters it sounded as if he was getting tired or something. The narration parts were quiet to the point of whispering, and when I turned the volume up there were certain syllables and phrases that just about blew my speakers out of the wall. It was quite irritating, be warned. I listen to audio books while driving, so even though I have a quiet vehicle, that might have made it more challenging rather than sitting in a dead quiet room with headphones on.

SOME PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO ENJOY THEIR MONEY

This may well be AB's most interesting character study. Each of his protagonists have been interesting, but Prohack excels them all with his wise approach to parenting despite the curse of unexpected fortune. And his rejection of idleness as his life's work only adds to his charm. As ever, the novel is enhanced by the incomparable Simon Evers.

Delicious Fun!

This was a fun listen and Arnold Bennett always brings out each of his character's idiosyncrasies. Simon Evers was born to read Mr. Bennett's books and he was flawless as usual. I did not have any problem with hearing the final chapters, as one reviewer stats) but I do listen in a quiet room or with air pods. Lovely story that is very entertaining.

Cute book about nothing

The perfect book to fall asleep to. Interesting enough to keep my attention but no so interesting that I stay awake. Unfortunately, in the last few chapters the volume of Simon's voice fluctuates so wildly that I either couldn't hear him or a sentence would be so loud, it startled me. No other complaints.

A romping good tale

The fun and challenges of sudden wealth on a stolid middle class family. Great characters,. More humor than is generally present in family tales. Excellent reader. Some unexpected volume changes in Cp 21, 22, but otherwise a fun and light novel. Please excuse typos, unable to see txt on my android.

Story was highly entertaining and narrator Simon Evers always enhances the storyline. 3 stars because this time the narration was more like a running conversation with rapid speech patterns and at times very quiet, almost mumbled, asides-type low-volume passages. Maybe a different effect-type, and still worth listening to but at times, quite frustrating.

loved it

first of all Simon Evers is one of the top five narrator's on LibriVox hands down. this book is so funny laugh out loud at times but you have to take the time and get to know the characters don't give up after the first couple of chapters!

i like the reader but I agree that the last several chapters were difficult to hear. I finally gave it up and could not finish the book as it was too frustrating to try and hear whispers with occasional blasting syllables of words.
