“On the day the drafted men march away, Ruth MacDonald catches John Cameron's eye and waves to him. In the excitement of the moment they both forget the social barriers that lie between them and only remember they were schoolmates as children. From this a friendship develops that has far-reaching results. To Ruth, spoiled daughter of the rich, comes a new conception of life, of war, of love. To John comes tests of fire before he finds himself. Here is the absorbing romance of two people who searched through the devious paths of a warring world for fulfillment and happiness.” - Dust Jacket, 1919 Edition. Thank you for giving of your time to read this story. It was a great listening experience.

An awesome Christian story!! Loved hearing it!!!

I loved this book!

I chose this book next to hear because I listened to another book, which was read by LikeManyWaters, and wanted to enjoy her sweet reading voice. Thank you for your time and effort to help me when I don't have time to read another book. Years ago, while home educating my son, I thought about volunteering my time to read to someone other than my family, but I never read for Librivox. I really appreciate you taking the time to read to us! God bless you and keep you!

Worthwhile and Enjoyable

I am a huge GLH fan, and this is a re-listen for me. Thank you to the amazing narrator. The one thing that bothered me, and this is true for several GLH novels, is that the hero is a “decent guy” before becoming regenerated in Christ. GLH had a hard time making a male character who was flawed/actively sinning before Christ comes into his life. Just an interesting thought.

I don’t usually read books about wars, but I loved this one! I’m reading through all of Grace Livingston Hill’s novels and I highly recommend all her works!

good

I have to say some of her other stories do not come close to this one. Has to be the best!

Shorter good WW1 Romance

A good short read. Predictable, but a nice story with happy ending...almost a Cinderella story in reverse.

more realistic than most of her novels. Actually discussing soldiers killing their own commanders had to be revolutionary at the time.
