A greatly challenging sermon

(5 stars)

This message by late Rev. Paris Reidhead was delivered during a Bethany Fellowship Summer Conference in the mid sixties. Since then, this recording has been a continual blessing to many. The sermon picks up its theme from Judges 17 and 18 where the story of a young levite is mentioned during the days of the Judges. This levite sells his ministry to Micah, a self-invented religious man, for 10 shekels and a shirt; but when the Danites come with a greater offer, he opts for them. Reidhead, with the prophetic unction, condemns this form of utilitarianism, that uses God as a means to an end, as sin. He parallels it with modern day humanism in which the happiness of man is regarded as the sole end of existence and even God and religion are instrumentalized. "This is selfishness! This is sin!!" says Reidhead, and challenges Christians to come back to the right terms with God. A very challenging sermon.
