Isolation Funnies - OTR Variety Special

Isolation Funnies - OTR Variety Special We're all stuck at home for the next several weeks, flattening the curve of global pandemic.  We crave quality entertainment, and for fellow fans of Old-Time Radio, you're in luck.  Twenty episodes of OTR, mostly comedy and variety shows, from 1940-1979.  The few exceptions are over-the-top episodes of Theater Five and Inner Sanctum.  Part of Let George Do It's charm was the ongoing snark of the hero and his pals.  Leading lady Anne Seymour gets showcased both in Sanctum's The Undead and in The Magnificent Montague -- both times as bedeviled wives!  There are also double servings of Jack Benny, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, and Bob & Ray.  Cary Grant and Shirley Temple redo their roles in Lux Theater's version of The Bachelor and The Bobbysoxer, and Tallulah Bankhead wryly clashes with Jimmy Durante and Clifton Webb on The Big Show.  Other comedy stars represented here are Fred Allen, Lucille Ball, Groucho Marx, Robert Benchley, Monty Woolley, Andy Griffith, Fibber Mcgee & Molly, Beulah, Smiley Burnette, Eve Arden, Charlie Ruggles, Alice Faye, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, and Mary Livingstone.   Original files (sources are in Archive's Old-Time Radio section) have been updated with such perks as removal of background noise, adjusted volume, and in a couple of files, returning them to normal speed -- the voices of the stars of A House of Cards and Aunt Agatha no longer drag.  Purists may complain, but I also toned down the ticking of the clock in that T-5 episode; this is no time to be bothered excessively.
