Scrapbook of Champions was produced by WFUV, a station owned by Fordham University in the Bronx borough of New York City. This particular recording focuses on Lou Gehrig, featuring recitations from his famous farewell speech at Yankee Stadium.
The play-by-play announcer of the Boston Celtics, Johnny Most, narrates the program, while Bill Watson, a local New York City radio announcer, also contributes. The other performers in this recording may be students. Very little is known about this series, and this may have been the only episode produced.
These recordings are part of the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection. Mr. Hehn (1931-2020) was a pioneering collector of radio recordings when the hobby emerged in the 1960s. Digitizing his collection of reel tapes and discs is the effort of a wide range of North American volunteers, along with some international collectors.
