Saturday-Night Theatre Sat 19th Mar 1983, 20:30 on BBC Radio 4 FM The Lion In Winter A comedy by James Goldman 'What family doesn't have its ups and downs?' remarks Eleanor of Aquitaine, the estranged, Imprisoned wife of Henry II. The Christmas gathering of the Royal Family at Chlnon in 1183 is spectacularly fraught. The divisive issue Is that of succession to the throne of England. Eleanor, Henry and his three sons, Richard, Geoffrey and John, all plot with one another to secure the throne for themselve's or their candidates. Good will is conspicuously absent. Directed by Ian Cotterell Henry II King of England: John Turner Queen Eleanor, his wife: Barbara Jeftord Richard Llonheart, the eldest son:   Michael Cochrane Geoffrey, the middle son: Clive Francis   John, the youngest son: Gary Cady Philip, King of France: Geoffrey Burrldge Alals*a Franceprincess: Phoebe Nlcholls
