While this is not an adventuresome lifestyle, Cyril finds opportunities to help his employer and build his standing. Through some Providential occurrences involving a fire of wealthy estates, thwarting burglaries, saving the honor of a young maiden, and saving the Price's ship in a battle, Cyril is put in command of a small vessel and further aids the British navy in battle.
