The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
This is the 8th issue of Volume 3 with the following five stories:
> "The Man with the Lucky Eye", by John W. Harding: a professor is taken hostage for a night and asked to pay a very unusual ransom
> "Me and Mose", by Annie E. S. Fearing: money might not last long if badly managed
> "The Cross of Fire", by by Bert Leston Taylor and Edward Ward: lost in the woods, a man stumbles upon an incredible scientific invention
> "A Witness of War", by Virginia Woodward Cloud: a surprise find changes the outcome of an auction
> "The Copeland Collection", by Margaret Dodge: when marriage is a mismatch, tragedy ensues
