This is not your typical H. Rider Haggard adventure book yet it is full of mystery and intrigue including a coerced marriage, bigotry, adultery, murder and a buried treasure!

This is the tale of an ancient family’s struggles to survive, one woman’s selflessness and another’s evil schemes; Two Gentlemen, two scoundrels and one very underestimated, loyal servant.

Listen as the tale unfolds and guess where the treasure is hidden that can save them all! Summary by Esther. (12 hr 9 min)

Some of the Best of Haggard!

(5 stars)

Excellent book of Haggard's. The reader was very solid also. Quite enjoyed!

BRAVO

(5 stars)

It was difficult to believe this was a Haggard book sincr had no Ayesha, no Allan, and no Africa. Not every author can switch gears so completely and still produce such a gem. It compares favorably with Wilkie Collins without being so long-winded. The narration was excellent.

oh my God

I had to triple check to make sure this was a Haggard novel. As another reviewer said, it's more like a Wilkie Collins story. It is without a doubt the best no Quatermain novel Haggard put out.

A sweet story

I really enjoyed this story. I was rooting for Colonel Quaritch through the story, he is a very loveable guy. The narration was pretty good too if I remember. Good story worth listening to.
