"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day...

Written in 1922, The Velveteen Rabbit, or, How Toys Become Real is the tale of a sweet unassuming toy rabbit who questions what it is to live and to love. It was the first children's title written by Margery Williams (1881 - 1944), who had previously created only for adults. This story eclipsed all others, to become her most famous work, and an ever adored classic for all ages. (Summary written by Marlo Dianne)

"It was by a sort of accident that The Velveteen Rabbit became the beginning of all the stories I have written since…By thinking about toys and remembering toys, they suddenly become very much alive. Toys I had loved as a little girl--my almost forgotten Tubby, who was the rabbit, and Old Dobbin, the Skin Horse, and the toys my children had loved." -- Margery Williams (0 hr 28 min)

Unusually disappointed by reading

(2 stars)

Sometimes arch, otherwise flat and unvaried -- not one of the Librivox collection's successes among readings I think (and there are some really good, enjoyable, nicely-projected readings elsewhere in this collection, in my opinion). Will try the duet version. I don't think I'd heard the story before (had heard of it quite a few times...) - still enjoyed it very much.

The way the narrator reads is very annoying. Ridiculous!

i enjoyed the telling of the story very much. the reader was very sensitive to the flow of the wording which was pleasant to listen to. however, there were a couple of incidents where the pronounciation of 'T's' such as in the word important was not stressed enough to be heard clearly. On the whole the book was read in a hypnotic voice thst was also sootheing and was extremely suited to being used for bedtime story telling

Wonderful story if you increase the speed

(5 stars)

Please ignore the bad reviews about the slowness of the narration by people who don't know how to use the app features. It is read oddly slow but if you tap the rabbit icon and increase the speed to about 1.4x it is perfect. One of my favorite children's stories! Highly recommend.

Love the story of The Velveteen Rabbit, and it reminds me of Pinocchio somewhat in becoming real. The voice actor could speed up her tempo by 25%, and that would make it a perfect audio enhancement for the perfect story.

As a kid this was my favourite book and hearing it now makes me cry as it reminds me of my old velvet stuffed dog

Narrator is a little singsong but I don’t hate it. I kind of expect it because this is supposed to be a kid’s book.
