The Harvester is one of Gene Stratton-Porter’s romantic novels which combine a love of nature, high moral ideals and a good plot.

This is the story of a young man who lives in the country side with his dog and other animals and grows herbs to sell to medical drug supply houses.

One evening, he has a vision of his Dream Girl and this is the story of his search for her and what happens when he finds her. (Summary by Readaholic) (14 hr 54 min)

love it!!! now u guys should do The Keeper Of The Bees!

The 2nd best book from this writer, 1st being "Freckles" !

(4.5 stars)

This is a book written for people over 15-16, it deals with adult feelings and deep moral "Right" actions ! Freckles is a much better book for all age groups, I read and understood Freckles at first at age 9-10, and loved it all over again at 62 via the fine LibriVox Volunteer voices when I grew to weak to hold a book, as well as to blind to read books any longer due to multiple medical problems. Thank you dear volunteer voices for giving me back the joys of affordable reading again when I thought it had gone from me forever !!!

Good story

of all the Gene Stratton- Porter works I have read this is my favorite and this reading is very good. Ms. Stein does very well in her pace of reading and giving each character their own voice so that you know who is talking. I look forward to more from both the author and the narrator.

Perfect match to the meaning of the story

Wonderfully heartwarming and inspiring story. A book everybody should read in our troubled times alienated from nature and the true source of happiness

I loved this book . The blend of Nature and storytelling and inspiring goodness makes it a read well worth the time! Prepare to enjoy yourself.

full of surprises

very descriptive narrative. almost got boring but then the plot would thicken and it would pique the interest again. overall very enjoyable.

Listened to the whole thing. Not my cup of tea. While the reader was clear, and I’m not sure it would have made a difference with another reader, the characters seemed childish. While the main character had an interesting career and I liked the description of herbs, his view of clean living wore on me. I get it, you are living the “right” way. The road to love was an interesting concept, yet it was so punctuated with moral goodness, it was ruined. Again, just not my cup of tea.

Fantastic book. And a beautiful work of art by this talented reader. I am so sorry it is her only offering. I recommend listening to The Harvester while actually reading A Man of Property in the same time frame. Perceive the intensity of the contrast while comparing both to your own state of affairs.
