This sparkling collection of 7 short stories by Ferber includes some that are considered her all time best like The Woman Who Tried To be Good and The Maternal Feminine. Writing for and about women, Edna Ferber touches the very heart and soul of what it means to be human; to make good choices and bad; to be weak and strong. This was a very popular book when published in 1913 (Summary by phil chenevert) (5 hr 7 min)

Another amazing read by Phil Chenevert. I always know it will be good listening if Mr Chenevert is the reader. Good stories as well. Many with the theme of war in the background and most with poignant endings. The stories are all wonderful.

Edna Ferber was one of the USA's finest writers. Hard to understand why she is not more widely read. Her stories of small town life and independent women in the upper Mid West still sparkle across the decades. And her characters -- so well drawn they just pop off of the page. I always think of Dickens when I read Ferber. And that's a compliment to the former! Phil's reading is outstanding (as usual) with just the right intonation and humour. Thanks, Phil, on behalf of your cousins across the pond. TheBookworm (Manchester, UK)

Small Town US WW1 era

Family stories of life, everyday and plain to outsiders. However anyone raised in a small town will recognize the places, people, and relationships common to total small towns or farms. Delightful!

Neat collection of short stories

Some are sad, some are happy, but all teach a lesson or two in being a better person. Phil does an excellent job with reading. Thanks Phil!
