The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Burglar (version 2)

(4.2 stars; 37 reviews)

This collection of independent stories first published between 1905 and 1907 in the magazine Je Sais Tout recounts the tales of Arsène Lupin, the famous gentleman-burglar: the first story marks the introduction of the character to the public, and its success encouraged author Maurice Leblanc to write several others, collected and published as a book in 1907. Arsène Lupin would go on to be the main character in several short stories and novels, written by Leblanc and others, and whose legacy would appear also in comics, movies and video games, becoming the icon of the affable and charming man who, choosing to walk on the wrong side of law, still can be a force for good. - Summary by Leni (6 hr 2 min)

Good Reader

(4 stars)

This reader was actually pretty good. I'm kinda surprised that so many people said that she was not! Also, the book was good but not crazily good, that is why I put only four stars.

good story bad narratior

I was really excited to listen to this book but the narrator’s recording quality is absolutely terrible. Every “S” sound is physically painful to hear due to the fact the audio gets really high and sharp every time it’s said. It’s a shame because I liked the narrator’s voice. They need better recording equipment.

Great book. You wouldn’t be listening if you didn’t know it. That should give it 5 stars. But the production is so bad, it’s 2. Why this would recorded in a trash can is the real mystery.

Tho I enjoy the Arsene Lupin stories. And I was looking forward to listening to them. I must admit that I was not impressed by the narrator of this particular collection.

Can highly recommend.

Wonderfully read and interesting stories. Will relisten to this book.

A Cerebral Frolic

I admire the Author's audacious inclusion of another Author's character within these pages. Though I believe it sparked a lawsuit, ML simply continued by changing the name to "Hemlock Sholmes", if I'm not mistaken. The LibriVox volunteer is wonderful....
