The Gorilla Hunters

Read by Adele de Pignerolles

(4 stars; 20 reviews)

Ralph Rover is happily at home from his adventure on The Coral Island and wondering if he should settle down when he receives a visit from an eccentric stranger that won't give his name. This visit starts him on a string of adventures that find him getting charged by rhinoceroses, chased by African natives, and facing down a larger-than-life gorilla on his own. Of course, this is only the start of his adventure in to the land of the gorillas.

Please note: this book has some words now considered derogatory, which are used in a generic way without any derogatory meaning. At the time the book was written, these words were normal language. I have endeavored to read them as such--words that were perfectly suitable in the context of their day. (Summary by Adele de Pignerolles) (7 hr 52 min)

good stiry bad read

(2 stars)

lots of mispronounced words, vocal stumbles not rerecorded and edited out. very poor production value. sounds like a nervous high schooler doing a play. either speeding through the text or tripping over it never a hapoy medium.

Awesome book by one of my favorite authors... but allowances have to be made for its cultural/historical perspective. The book is full of adventure.

A thilling adventure in Africa

I suppose there are still some people in this world who think big game hunting is good ‘fun’ . I listened to the chapter “a gorilla and how we served him” or similar title. It made me feel quite sick. The terrible thing is that this kind of attitude still exists today in some so called ‘civilised’ countries, countries which love guns (toys for boys).
