CBS RADIO MYSTERY THEATER disk 1

(4,318 Sterne; 22 Bewertungen)

The CBS Radio Mystery indeed heralded the revival of the Golden Age of Radio. With the fine actor E. G. Marshall as the host, the series brought back those great days of mystery, suspense, drama and a touch of history. At first it aired daily, a monumental task when you consider this. But after some six years it went to five times a week. Mr. Marshall hosted the series until its final year when Tammy Grimes took over the chore on Feb 1, 1982. For the most part long-time radio personalities were heard with a smattering of TV and movie actors doing their part. Almost all of the story lines were newly written and produced, but there were some adaptions based on novels by Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, O. Henry, Nathaniel Hawthorne to name a few. The end of the series came quite quickly in early December 1982 with re-runs filling in the balance of the year.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

This stuff is so classic, so cool. I grew up listening to these programs and very much appreciate that they are available here. E.G. Marshall's voice and delivery is just amazing.

CBSRMT got me into OTR

(4 Sterne)

This program aired when I was starting out in grade school in the mid 70's through early 80's. There was a website in the late 90's at a university (the name escapes me) that had almost the entire collection. I have found several places on the web that have the full collection, but with 1399 episodes, it can be daunting to download them all. If you research how to download torrents, you can get all the episodes at http://thepiratebay.org/user/CBSRMT/0/3. This site only contains the torrent info. You can get a program like uTorrent for free, add these torrent files to uTorrent, then the program will go out and download the episodes while you can go and do other things. After about a week, I'll have just about the entire series. I've spot checked the sound quality and so far everything is good to excellent.
