Not as political as some say, Antarctic adventure/cult horror

A lot of people crack this story for its political implications. After the first five chapters, the author stops writing global warming into character dialogue, and there are only a few quips afterwords throughout the entire rest of the story. The characters were cool, the story was cool, and there were some moments that genuinely surprised me. This definitely lends itself to Lovecraft's work, but the author has a distinctly different style of writing. He's verbose at times, like Lovecraft, but much more playful in the way he writes. So, basically, don't expect a Lovecraft story. All in all, I liked it, and the bulk of the story between the first five chapters and the last few was very, very entertaining. The way Parrish captures the adventure and mystery of an Antarctic expedition really is gripping. I'm sorry to read that some people couldn't make it through the first five chapters and the political banter, because after that there's a great story to be read. Icy adventure with a cosmic horror cult mystery.

I noticed that most of the bad reviews come from people who are basically Dr. Manning's. They can't separate the writing from thier own outrage over a fictitious characters disbelief in what anybody with a brain ought to at least question. Great book. Awesome. I'm never, ever going spelunking in antartica. This is the last straw.
H.P. Lovecraft would be proud of this "Sequel"!

The writing is excellent, keeps you riveted and with more questions that are both hideously unknowable and decidedly Lovecraftian. Great Job, Parrish. Here's hoping you continue in this vein with The Crawling Chaos, etc!
