Kim is a fabulous adventure story set in India during the former British Empire. It tells the story of a street-wise but (in typical Kipling fashion) highly moral Anglo-Indian boy who becomes enmeshed the “the Great Game” -– the competition between Britain and Russia for control over Asia. Taking time off from his role as the traveling companion of an aged Tibetan lama, the boy is trained as a spy, matches wits with various evildoers, and wins out in the end. So much more than just a spy story, Kim is one of the most enjoyable books that you will ever read -- or have read to you.

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was born in Bombay, India. He was the author of many short stories and novels including The Jungle Book. (summary by Adrian Praetzellis) (13 hr 8 min)

beautiful reading! deep story.

(4 Sterne)

the reader did a beautiful job. proper pausing and pitch. excellent voices. well done! this story is of an old india. it touches on religions & cultures of the time. this may be a very boring story to some, but others will find it deep and enjoyable. I liked it very much at times, and other times found myself googling terms used to understand things.

What love Kim & his lama had for one another. Thanks for reading it so excellently now, if I can get these tears ,cleared up I'm going to start ""Kim" again.........

Excellent reading

I find myself reading books that I may have never read thanks to Adrian. He really knows his business and you would never guess that he is a Professor of Anthropology at a university in California. His reading style is second to none in my humble opinion.

great reader, interesting story

Many thanks to Adrian Praetzellis for a fantastic reading, including distinctive voices for each of the main characters. (The Lama is particularly well done.) The story itself starts a bit slow, but turns into quite an adventure. It's also an interesting look at India. There may well be some lurking imperialism, but to me the book seems clear evidence that Kipling loved India and its people.

This has been my favorite book for over 50 years. My eyes do not allow me to read as much as I like. This program has been a god send. Thankyou

a good Reader…

And my favorite book since I was 10, more than 40 years ago, what a treat! Except for the strange idea to give the Lama, who's voice is explicitly described as sounding like a gong, the cackling croak of an old fishwife. I couldn't get used to that, the more I heard of it, the more it pained me, until I had to stop and read the last pages myself. I describe this in detail to apologize for saying other than praise. And hoping, Mr. P. might di the Lama parts anew. And since he really is a very good reader, I suspect, that plain storytelling without the voices would lead to flawlessly gorgeous results.

Well read with unique voice given for one of the characters which takes some time to acclimatize to. Lengthy story with excellent description of the times in early English colonization of India from various caste (lower) perspective at the time this was written. Good capture of the Tibetan spiritual thinking too. Thanks!

Thank you to Adrian Praetzellis for "Kim" by Rudyard Kipling

A big thank you to Adrian for his wonderful reading of a great book at http://librivox.org/kim-by-rudyard-kipling/ . His characatures are excellent and consistent throughout this quite long book. I don't know how you do it so well for so long: They are so good I find myself mimicking the lama when trying to sound wise! Adrian's narration is as clear as a bell with a rhythm, speed, volume and pitch ("RSVP" as they teach in the military for clear voice communications!) that bring this book and its characters to life and so make it very hard to "put down". The recording is so clear that, at one stage, I can hear what sounds like night crickets chirping in the background!! 10/10, thank you again.
