Martin Overshaw and Corinna Hastings are leading dull and unproductive lives in Paris, having fled humdrum England. They fall in with Fortinbras, who calls himself a Marchand de Bonheur. He predicts a bright future for them and suggests they set out on a journey through France together.
The book follows their adventure which turns out to be far more complicated than it might at first seem. They meet a variety of characters on the way and the looming threat of the First World War overshadows the second half of the book, which nonetheless ends happily for all concerned. (10 hr 53 min)

A disclaimer must be inserted here, I’d listen to anything read by Simon Evers! That said, this is an engaging story with well developed characters of different stations in life. Their lives take interesting and often unexpected turns that make the book difficult to put down. Flawlessly narrated and thoroughly enjoyable!

so many little stories as a great one can afford to tell. I had little suspect of where it would take me and I am glad! such adventure reaching the finalé. If I found this in a shop now it would have to join my collection on shelf forever.

This is a love story set in the year before The Great War. The character development of the hero reaches deep into his very soul. It is a wonderful and rewarding novel. Simon Evers, Thank You!
