Northanger Abbey follows Catherine Morland and family friends Mr. and Mrs. Allen as they visit Bath, England. Seventeen year-old Catherine spends her time visiting newly-made friends, such as Isabella Thorpe, and going to balls. Catherine finds herself pursued by Isabella's brother John Thorpe (Catherine's brother James's friend from university), and by Henry Tilney. She also becomes friends with Eleanor Tilney, Henry's younger sister. Henry captivates her with his view on novels and his knowledge of history and the world. General Tilney (Henry and Eleanor's father) invites Catherine to visit their estate, Northanger Abbey, which, because she has been reading Ann Radcliffe's gothic novel The Mysteries of Udolpho, Catherine expects to be dark, ancient and full of fantastical mystery. This is not my favorite of her works, but it is well read. It wraps up rather quickly, and the answer to the mystery isn't so deep as they would make it out to be in the text, but certainly still worth a listen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful work from Jane Austen. Elizabeth Klett’s talented voice makes it easy to follow, and I especially loved her delicate British accent for the characters. Although Northanger Abbey is not a profound, thought-provoking work fit for discussion, it is a lovely slice of witty entertainment. Catherine is a believable, friendly heroine, and after a few chapters you’ll find yourself cheering for Mr. Tilney, her preferred suitor. But be prepared to want to read The Mysteries of Udolpho!

Elizabeth Klett is one of the finest readers/performers in the world of audiobooks. Her delivery is lively, her diction impeccable, and her accents lovely and accurate. This is the only Austen work I haven’t read myself, and it is a pleasure to hear it presented so beautifully in this version.

Elizabeth Klerk does a terrific English accent and reads very well. My only complaint is her switching back to her American accent for the narrative passages, which brings one out of the happy “suspension of disbelief” with an unpleasant jolt.

All the Austen books get better and better with repeated exposure, and this is no exception. Every time I listen to this (and yes of course I have a copy but I can’t read and do other things at the same time) I’m always left with a smile and a declaration that Catherine Morland is my favourite Austen heroine after all. And Elizabeth Klett reads amazingly but that goes without saying
Very well read, lighter in topic, than longer novels.

Almost a clever spoof of then gothic romances of this era, presented with Austin's usual subtle wit. She really catches the near "contagion of ideas" so easily and excitedly shared among girls in the process of becoming women. As usual, her characters are well written all their good, quirks and hidden secrets. Not her finest, but even her least novel is a good read.
again.. only for mrs Elizabeth Klett.

of all the Jane austen i have forced myself to listen to, this one is atleast the least drivel of them all. good story tho long and laggin in some points, of course ends as all expect it to be. just another Austen down only for the sake of ms Kletts narration skills. Elizabeth is the only reason i have been able to stomach Austens works.
