The strictures and subtleties of 19th century British nobility are hard to navigate, especially if your employer wants you to hide your identity, but she bullies and humiliates you. Things only get worse when two widely different men are courting you, but only one offers marriage and the other one may be engaged to a beautiful heiress who just happens to be your cousin. This all sounds like a setup for a romantic comedy, but it's a much better book. these characters have personalities: they grow, they change, some are deeply spiritual, some live for politics, some don't live long enough. There is a satisfying ending. As always, Simon Evers' narration is perfect.
love the reader; story a bit meh

i love love love Simon Evers, so this review has nothing at all to do with his reading. Story itself is exceedingly long-winded, too many tears/flushed cheeks/warm cheeks/pale cheeks/pale lips etc etc. And then one isnt sure what exactly has happened at the end. Ultimately it is uninspiring and way too long and repetitive to be truly interesting.
