Entertaining and Moral

(5 Sterne)

An entertaining compilation of blunders and stories by a middle class housewife in the Victorian or Edwardian era. I laughed many times and it was an interesting insight to the morals and lifestyles of the people of the day. I want to print off a copy just to own it on my shelf. Highly recommended for the housewives of today. The reader does a good job.

Awww, what a sweet and well-written book. How to go about finding an excellent cook who is not caustic? How to budget for pretty chairs, like one's neighbor! And loved visiting a time and place where there were no vacuum cleaners, washing machines, or dish washers. But more than that, it's refreshing to be so candidly spoken to by one who has such a diligent heart for overseeing her household. As Dostoevsky has written, "a home of his own, with a real princess to reign over it." Yes it's slow. Yes you may wish to fast forward a bit at times. But it is well worth it. You will smile and laugh with the entertaining stories, and be deeply moved by the sad and difficult ones. And the last chapter . . . in it you see the author's heart. How I look forward to thanking her one day, and will definitely read the final chapter more closely again. Lastly, the singular reader fits the book splendidly, thank you, thank you!!

Very well read but too outdated for me.

Such a sweet book

Cheerful but thought-provoking. An ideal thing to listen to while travelling or doing housework. The reader had a smooth, measured way of speaking that I really enjoyed.

Great inside look at how people used to live

I couldn’t take more than a chapter of some of the worse writing in the English language. The only good thing about this author is the “TS” in front of his name.
