Uller Uprising

Uller Uprising is the story of a confrontation between a human overlord and alien servants, with an ironic twist at the end. Like most of Piper's best work, Uller Uprising is modeled after an actual event in human history; in this case the Sepoy Mutiny (a Bengal uprising in British-held India brought about when rumors were spread to native soldiers that cartridges being issued by the British were coated with animal fat. The rebellion quickly spread throughout India and led to the massacre of the British Colony at Cawnpore.). Piper's novel is not a mere retelling of the Indian Mutiny, but rather an analysis of an historical event applied to a similar situation in the far future. (Summary from John F. Carr's introduction) (5 hr 7 min)

Bad reading

Take a breath now and then guys: it isn't a race to see how fast you can get the words on the page out of your mouth. The story is great though, I really love H. Beam Piper's work. Maybe they can get a better reader to rerecord the audio at some point.

pretty cool story.

Not a fan of the mixed narrators. but it was free and well read for the most part. some need to slow down. love the fact everyone smokes in these old books.

The plot is good, it's only that there are three narrators that

I had to stop listening. As others has said, readers were reading too fast to understand. Appreciate readers taking time but need to slow down.

This is a classic sci fi book and if thats your bag then your going to enjoy this reading. The story follows an uprising of aliens on a world run by humans. The aliens vastly outnumber the humans and generally speaking are not as well armed or trained as the good guys ( humans ). As both sides become stressed and worried about their position the stakes rise as does the action and excitement. None of the characters are particularly noteworthy in this book and they all slot into the general background to fill out the cast. The story does slowly build towards its climax so you are drawn along with the narration. Speaking of narration the reading in this book is perfectly fine but does suffer now and then from a little noise. To sum it up, well worth a listen if you like classic sci fi For more of my reviews of free audio visit http://FreeAudioReview.blogspot.com/

H Beam Piper on fine form

I deducted a star because of the narration. Not that any of the readers were awful or anything, but I find it hard to get into a novel when different chapters are read by different readers and who then give totally different voices and accents to the characters…. I could do without the fella who shouts breathlessly into the microphone so as to cause distortion. Calm down! For anyone finding the readers too fast, there is a playback speed control in the app so you can slow them down a bit. That said the story is excellent fun and makes a few political and social points along the way, and I enjoyed it overall regardless of misgivings on the “assortment” of readers.

This is one of my favorite books by Henry Piper. I first heard it nearly 10 years ago and would fall asleep to nightly. Piper had a universe that possibly had the potential to rival Asimov or Herbert. this it probably the 10th time I've had to get new technology, after losing everything I owned, and i have downloaded this and a few others

Okay book, okay readers

I enjoy old sci-fi stories and worlds. This book has a fun world, but the plot and characters could've been better. There are three readers, but the woman reads the majority of the book. She was a bit fast, so I listened at 0.9 speed for most of it. Overall not a bad experience at all.
