Second book in the Marcia Schuyler trilogy. Phoebe Deane lives almost as a servant in her brother's home, tormented by her hateful sister-in-law. Schemes to marry her off swirl around her. The the storyline is very pleasant. The readers intonations take a little time to get used to, but once you adjust to it it's okay. I enjoyed this book

Good Story

I have to say at certain points during the tale I felt quite angry, would we have allowed ourselves to be manipulated as Pheobe was, I would hope not. Happy ending apart, I was astounded when the wedding dress fitted, I'm not sure a dress made for me in childhood would have ever been of the right size all those years later, and the shoes, but it was a fairy tale so I suppose there was a bit of magic involved.

Some parts of the book seem to drag on a little too long. Plus, the reader has a monotone voice that goes up at the end of sentences. Very irritating to listen too. Would be more pleasant with a different reader. Shirley

Excellent!

Tiresome, tacky, tiny minded reviewers need to adjust their ears, not the narrator her style. Ungrateful complainers; go make your own version, if you dare. It wont come close to the excellent job this narrator does, I'll bet you.

TriciaG has a special gift:

TriciaG knows exactly what books i will love and reads them! isn't that sweet of her? GLH and she are a wonderful pairing! (i have listened to this series now than a dozen times because it's an especially favorite.) i have many teeth- grinding moments when i want to reach into my speaker and wring certain characters' necks, but that again speaks to TriciaG's delivery. wonderful!

Love this story and the narrator did a wonderful job! Tricia G. keep up the good work! Grace Livingston Hill continues to amaze me with her wit and Charm. On to the next book in the series!

Should've been titled 'Miranda Saves Another One"

(1 Sterne)

Character synopsis: Hero: Knight in Shining Armour Heroine: Miranda Damsel in distress: Phoebe Honestly, if the author was writing to educate women about why NOT to be a relatively weak willed, cowardly, and imprudent (imprudence in this case being that she does not confide her troubles to those that might help i.e. her brother or even David. So in this case prudence (married with humility) as in justly pursuing help and u-s-i-n-g h-e-r w-o-r-d-s instead of being dictated to and controlled by her fears) female, she does so in the character of Phoebe Deane. The only parts worth reading are the ones with Miranda in them :) and unfortunately she mostly only shows up in times of crisis of which the are many however you have to listen to all the stuff in between....:) The Christian theme is at best, very weak.

MAKE THIS INTO PERIOD MOVIE!

(5 Sterne)

Such an excellent story. I am becoming more and more fond of GLH's books as I listen. There are such colorful characters within Phoebe Deane and would make a wonderful movie, or better yet, series. There are SO many remakes of the Bronte's, Jane Austen, George Elliot... this would be a fresh offering to the screen. I nod to Trisha G as well. In the past I have found it difficult to bear the uptake at the end of each of her sentances. I pondered that SHE likewise might have a difficult time listening to MY PA German accent and grew more open minded. She is in actuality a fine reader and voice actor. On to #3 in Series, MIRANDA.
