Are we able to determine if persuasion is from a godly person or an evil person if both come packaged in similar wrappings? Sweet words, couched in soft concern but barbed beneath with malice can be deadly.

I'm going back through the Ester Ried books (this time it's 3/31/2021). They are highly recommended for an inventory of your spiritual walk. I especially appreciate how the characters are able to defend their faith and cause others to contemplate what are believed to be "harmless" activities. i have a LOT of bookmarks. I did not know until recently that Isabelle Alden was also a Pastor's Wife. no wonder she 'gets' me so well (and no WONDER she used a pen name!) Thanks as always to TriciaG for reading my favs!

Story: Love the continuing story in the Ried family. Hopeful for more of the kind! Reader: Tricia G has a flatter reading style than I prefer, however, she is a suitable reader for the story.

nice and entertaining but is 80% a display of the sinful character of the characters and then a dramatic turnaround and 20% of reformation in the last 40 minutes

Great reading TrishaG. I can't help but think what a pack of absolute nasty cows the majority of characters in this book are! Unbelievable gossips, nasty and empty and petty and coercive. Hard to believe this went on to this degree in "polite society", but from other historical novels, apparently it was not uncommon.

I agree with Sherry Woomert's review, how can a 16-year-old from a small town recognize so smooth a manipulator? The landlady is not precisely evil, but she plays games with people's lives and emotions like a puppeteer.
