Deathworld is the first in a series of novels begun in 1960 and originally serialized in Astounding Science Fiction Magazine. It’s the story of Jason dinAlt a professional gambler with psionic skills who finds himself on Pyrrus the deadliest planet to be colonized by humanity. Violent weather, active tectonics, heavy gravity, abundant predators, and a hostile splinter group of colonists is only the beginning of Jason’s quest to learn the truth about Pyrrus. this is a fascinating book and the narrator brings it to life. I totally enjoyed listening to this and even though it's now 5 in the morning and I have finally finished that I think that is time well spent. I highly recommend this book

Harry Harrison’s stories are all very different, but you can always count on one thing: having a main character who is relatable and lovable, even through their flaws. This particular story is what really hooked me to his writing. Jason DinAlt is the person we want to be with, want to be, and yet we can’t imagine being in his shoes. Deathworld, despite its name, leaves us with a sense of longing and hope for adventure and the continuation of the human spirit.

I put this off for so long just because i hated the cover , a true "you cant judge a book by its cover" this story has everything a scifi fan needs in a good book.I have listened to this several times and im sure i will listen several more. I highly recommend giving this gem a listen ...you wont be disappointed 10/10 or 5/5 whatever

Very good story that gets going almost immediately and keeps up the tempo through to the end. Some novel ideas here and is the best book I have listened to so far on this site. The narrator does an excellent job of delivering this book and again, is the best one I have come across so far. Highly recommended and well worth five stars.

a very riveting tale of excitement and knowledge as well as learning and self discovery filled with lessons that should be learned and followed as well as lived by. by the people of today's modern and ever growing society. though the ending shouldn't have ended there it should have ended with one final chapter where we see Jason out in the galaxy with his new ship and crew as well as the people on pyrus thriving a true happy ending. but a good tale none the less

I really like this book. I've listened to it over 20 time and now come to realize that I don't like the main character. he is narcissistic with a self imposed god complex. then at the end of the book he is a selfless humanitarian? it just doesn't fit right. that being said I still love the book.

Fascinating novel. The action never stopped. The characters were well-developed, realistic, and relatable. I found myself wanting to read more. The mood of the novel was always uplifting and optimistic. The pace was that of Fast & Furious. The plot was an amalgamation of Alien, Mad Max, and MacGyver. In the end, they all lived happily ever after :)

good read , a good story, the Author certainly has a mind for adventure and intrigue, shame it’s come to an end but now I’m looking for something similar and with the same competent reader and yes he did read this book very well. Thank You Librovox for having this story on your channel.
