Sybella: "There is no plot in this story, because there has been none in my life or in any other life which has come under my notice. I am one of a class, the individuals of which have no time for plots in their life, but have all they can do to get their work done without indulging in such a luxury". Like the author Miles Franklin, Sybella grows up in the bush, and as her family's fortunes decline, so her feelings rise that life should hold more for her than the relentless hard physical work farming marginal land in times of drought. If nothing else read the last chapter, a tribute to australians, sons and daughters of the Southern Cross, of the bush and outback. beautiful. No not aussie, but I've felt a feeling like homesickness since leaving as a tourist in 2009...never felt that anywhere but Australia .

A simple story. I like some narrations more. A few chapters' narrations were a little bit difficult to hear and understand. Thanks. 😊

I’ve had this book sitting on my bookshelf for as long as I can recall, but for reasons that escape me, I’ve never ventured to read it. This rendering of an Australian classic was generally successful apart from a terrible reading in one of the later chapters. Congrats to the narrators...much appreciated😊
