Grammar-Land

In this charming 1877 book of grammar instruction for children, we are introduced to the nine parts of speech and learn about the rules that govern them in Grammar-Land.

"Judge Grammar is far mightier than any Fairy Queen, for he rules over real kings and queens down here in Matter-of-fact-land. Our kings and queens have all to obey Judge Grammar’s laws, or else they would talk what is called bad grammar; and then, even their own subjects would laugh at them, and would say: “Poor things!

They are funny fellows, these nine Parts-of-Speech. You will find out by-and-by which you like best amongst them all. There is rich Mr. Noun, and his useful friend Pronoun; little ragged Article, and talkative Adjective; busy Dr. Verb, and Adverb; perky Preposition, convenient Conjunction, and that tiresome Interjection, the oddest of them all." Excellent way to Introduce Grammar Vocabulary!

(5 Sterne)

This was a surprise find. We listen to audiobooks constantly! And, I use them as tools to introduce new vocabulary before beginning the next stage of our homeschool journey. This book will be listened to several times before we start writing practice. Even without the educational aspect, it is still a joy to listen too!

Excellent book and narrator

I have listened to several grammar books, and this is the first one to have clearly answered a grammar question I've had most of my 52 years - the difference between subjective and objective cases, and how to tell them. a very pleasant reader, too. Thank you. Just one note of caution - as nice as it is to find an English-authored book for grammar, and set in the novel environment of a courtroom, the author suffers from the Victorian tendency to use moral tales which we consider somewhat gruesome for children nowadays for her parsing quizzes. Not that it will bother anyone very much at Halloween :( But the last tale used the story of an accidental poisoning of a baby squirrel by young children trying to feed it milk. Listen through first, and make your own sentences. Small whiteboards are the modern equivalents of slates and chalk. Or a tablet screen and drawing app. I'll be recommending this book to my home education friends, and using it for my new granddaughter :)
