It's a fun story, pretty relatable, and it's refreshing to see someone truly follow what they believe, regardless of convenience. It's written at a nice pace and has a ton of internal commentary from the vicar, which is often amusing. The reader is also excellent.. I would listen to his voice endlessly.

A delightful book! Tadgh once again does an excellent job reading and has made himself my favorite Libribvox narrator. He is professional quality with a relaxing voice and a beautiful accent.

Tadhg narrates this story with energy and his accent transports you to this family as they face their challenges in life. Goldsmith writes in a beautiful writing style that fills the reader's/listener's mind with not only the action but description of people and places. His wit and style is exemplary. Love this book!
Satire or Not?

I couldn't figure out if this was meant to be satirical (making fun of the simple, good-hearted vicar narrator and his family) or straightforward. If you take it straightforwardly, it's a kind tale of the trials of this somewhat naive family and how they pressed through them. If you take it as satire... well... As a believer, the "meditation" on dying in chapter 29 was actually very good! Tadhg is an excellent reader. I highly recommend this.

The story starts out slow, and for about the first 15 chapters, I was starting to wonder if it was going to go anywhere, but eventually the story develops into something quite dramatic, and is a wonderful commentary on the survival of the spirit of a man of God. I very inspiring, and I can understand why it was a favorite book of Mark Twain.

Moral tale of the values of Faith and Family. Set in as a way to reform and forgiveness of sometimes harsh changes in very classist society. political Classic Liberal politics are subtly woven through the vicissitudes of family love, care, forgiveness and hope. you care about the feelings of the tight-knit family via the Vicar-fathers narration.
