A woman is apparently murdered in a New York auditorium under very suspicious circumstances one evening during a performance. Helen Hardwick happened to be in attendance that evening, as she had written the play that was being performed, and she was the only person to have caught a glimpse of something peculiar just before the murder. She also heard an ominous laughter which would haunt her for a long time. Was the Gray Phantom involved, or could he assist with the investigation that Helen was to become involved with? fantastic story well read and 100% recommend had to stay awake to listen to the whole book in one go I loved it that much xx thank you to the author and narrator for a wonderful night will be hard to find these combined qualities in another story xxxx

Another awesome "whodunit" mystery. I didn't want to stop listening ever (for those silly necessities like sleeping...)! Well read and recorded. I enjoyed every twist and surprise! Thank you so much for adding this to your incredible library.

The gray phantom started out quite well. The unusual murder, a disappearing body and a host of characters had me wanting to hear more. As the story progressed it became annoying to have a hero who kept making dumb mistakes and didn't follow clues. I listened until the end, hoping our hero would redeem himself. Thankfully he did.

yeah the hero wasn't always the most brilliant but the whole story was engaging and a definite page Turner! great story and great reader!

I persevered to the end in listening to this story, but this was largely due to Mr Melin's good narration. Thank you, Roger for your time and effort. The storyline passed muster but an earlier reviewer has aptly summed up my own dismay and frustration with our dear, but all-too-often bungling, hero. I'd expected much of him after hearing early on in the story of his superlative global reputation, but I then marvelled, not at his prowess and perspicacity but at his catalogue of mishandled opportunities and his credulity. He'd done well in deciding to retire and devote himself to orchid-rearing, but, if he'd been insightful enough beforehand to discern how Helen felt about him, maybe they would have got together earlier and we'd all have been spared much. 😜
Too Many Coincidences for Even the Wildest Fantasy

The heroine is too naive, the villain is too diabolical, the hero is too inept, the amazing coincidences are too many, to be enjoyable. I found myself grinding my teeth as each blundered along and the plot dragged on and on. There are too many other excellent mysteries out there to listen to this hack job. Better to re-listen to Sherlock Holmes or The Rivals of S. H.

... to ask me, I would say there needs to be both, so that wherever one shall or shall not move, I sincerely intuit that whomever moves without love very very few actors would be able to appeal to that very essence whence no one thing or another would ever be!300523!

The summary covers the plot nicely. The reader did an excellent job, as usual. Thanks Roger! I will say that although this is a very suspenseful story, the ending few chapters seemed to drag out a bit. Overall though, it was still an excellent story worth the read (listen). :-)
