(4,532 Sterne; 93 Bewertungen)

This is the classic story of Mowgli, the young boy raised by wolves in India: his escapades and adventures with his dear friends Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear, his capture by the Monkey-People, his attempt at reintegration into human society, and his ultimate triumph over his avowed enemy the tiger Shere Khan. Included in the book is the story of the brave white seal, Kotick, and the tenacious young mongoose, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi who battled through the night to protect his human family from a pair of sly and viscous cobras. Packed with adventure and Jungle Law wisdom, this book has pervaded popular culture as the basis of many film and stage adaptations, including the popular Disney movie.

good reader - multiple stories

(4 Sterne)

i wanted to read the jungle book as a new movie is coming out. i picked this version and was VERY happy with the reader and the quality. the book is much like the various movie renditions i have seen. though the monkeys are portrayed as a different species than in the disney movie and the death of the tiger is different then what i remember - but maybe i have a bad memory! i did not realize this version is a book of multiple short stories. i only wanted to listen to one of them.

worth the discovery

You will find many fascinating creatures and stories here, some curious anachronisms but most of all, the sublime seal lullaby.

cute stories

I enjoyed these children's stories. the reader has a lilting way of reading that sounds as if he is chanting or singing sometimes. His style works for children's stories but for anything more, would sound ridiculous

A Splendid Reading

(5 Sterne)

When I first heard the reader's voice (during the "This is a Librivox recording" part), I wondered if it was going to be a bit too sing-songish for my taste. Not too worry; he was merely warming up, getting into the mood for telling this tale. Kipling himself would smile joyously at this splendid reading--and so will you! The enthusiasm the reader has and his skill at rendering the diverse voices are as good as I can imagine anyone delivering. We're fortunate that there are extraordinarily talented people like Phil Chenevert who are willing to volunteer their time.

Thanks to the reader

I created an account here just to thank the person who has read this book. I am a non native English speaker and I need to listen to English books in order to learn spoken fluent English. The reader of this book has read the book in a loud voice and with a great gusto. The book itself is interesting and the reader clear voice makes it worth listening to. Thanks again.

The Jungle Book (Version 2)

(5 Sterne)

I have always struggled with reading The Jungle Book. I have had to read it a couple times already to my kids for school, and have never enjoyed it. I tried it with a different narrator on a different platform, and that didn't help. However, this narrator has made it come alive! I am REALLY enjoying it this time around. Thank you, narrator!

Glad I listened

The book is imaginative and mostly delightful. I enjoy Kipling's animal perspectives. The reader is wonderful! His expressive use of voices brings out the characters' personalities.

Great reading!

Gave my mind a satiating adventure which saw me through another 10 hour work day. My children also enjoyed the readers presentation even though many of the words were lost to them.
