A Stellar Reading of a Great Story

I've commented on Mark's wonderful readings many times but this one takes the cake. His voices, tone and demeanor during this reading really bring the tale home. He sounds like a sailor and sells the story as I've never heard a story sold before. Even if you have no interest in the theme of his story listen to it just to relish this amazing narration performance. Stunning.

This is a gripping story made all the more so by the narrator, Mark Nelson, who has the perfect voice for all those "sea dogs" and the drama of a frightened crew tackling supernatural phenomenon at night on a lonely ocean. (I kind of regret listening to it while living alone in an old house in the country; it was that scary!) Can't wait to hear more from both the author (who had an interesting life story of his own) and the narrator. Many thanks for this great story.

This is an excellent story, although the reader of this version, does not quite manage to convey the dramatic effect and tension in his voice. The Ghost Pirates as "one of the finest examples of the tightly written novel ever published."[citation needed] In it, Hodgson never describes in any remarkable details the ghosts - if this is indeed what they are, since their true nature is left ambiguous - he merely reports on their gradual terrifying commandeering of the ship. I would rate this a 5* for the story, but downgraded it to 4, as the reader here just does not give,any emotional content in the reading. First I must compliment Mr Nelson on an excellent rendition of this book. Just a superb job, as usual. As-for the material, I was disappointed. I was drawn in at first but found it difficult to stay interested. The style and format became tedious about a third of the way through and the end was anticlimactic. I really wanted the crew of the ship to be able to fight back! I enjoyed the old time nautical references and, as I said the narration was awesome. Take the time to listen but don't expect to be to impressed.

This is a very different story. It contains a lot of tall ship sailing terminology which some might find daunting but having built a number of wooden ship models I rather enjoyed that. The reader, Mark Nelson, is superb as usual. We're lucky to have him donating his talents to these audio books. Is you like sea stories, give this a listen.

Not a particularly deep and meaningful story, but interesting enough to keep your attention to the end. Albeit, the end is a bit abrupt. The narrator does an excellent job of delivering the book and perhaps carries the story at times. Definitely one of the better ones and worth a listen.

A read rharkum12@icloud.com keeps you guessing the entire book. The end wasn't a desired ending to me. Left me with many questions. The ending didn't clarify my answers as to where the Ghost ship came from. Why did it exist?
