The elderly Brothers Owen, Morgan and Griffith live a quiet, retired life in the countryside, which is turned upside-down by Griffith's ward, the young Jessie Yelverton. Originally, her visit to them was to last only six weeks, but for a very certain reason, the gentlemen must find a way to prolong her visit and get Jessie to stay for ten more days. To make her stay, they promise to tell her an entertaining and exciting story each night... - Summary by Carolin (15 hr 47 min)

Wonderful story

(4 Sterne)

Very easy to listen to with the exception of one reader who made it slightly painful. The story is an enjoyable one and worth consuming.

Sad and happy at the same time

(4 Sterne)

This is a series of stories within a story. The summary covers the plot. I will add, however, that the short stories are mostly very sad, almost as if the author wanted to make you unhappy so as to give you a huge lift when the happy ending finally happens. This is not your typical Wilkie Collins book. It is definitely a love story, sweet, and yet sad from all the experiences had by the three older men in the story. The quality of the recordings was fine, and the readers were also good. Thanks!

One narrator ruined it

(3 Sterne)

The story was OK but tedious at times. However, one of the readers was so bad that I just could not finish it. I appreciate the volunteers who donate their time and talent, but sometimes the book is ruined by poor reading. That was the case with this one.

poignant -- sense of resignation

(5 Sterne)

I agree -- not your typical Wilkie Collins work -- very poignant. I did like the detective work -- reminded me a bit of Collins's The Law and the Lady. Very good readings / readers. Nice emotional inflections / voicings.

(3 Sterne)

I have listened to most of the authors books now. This book didn't have many of the authors characteristic traits. I am glad I listened to it only because I wanted to listen to his complete library.

WHAT A BARGAIN

(5 Sterne)

The bargain is the bonus of 10 great short stories gracefully woven into the overall plot of this master storyteller. The readers did fine jobs. Don't miss this one.

(3 Sterne)

I would have give it a higher rating except for one reader was the most horrible reader . I almost think it was done on purpose

Very well read by adjusting the reader’s speeds all are excellent. The plot structure is well employed. An enjoyable experience
