That Boy Can Write

(4.5 stars)

Wonderfully written and wonderfully read.... A rich series of amusing (and occasionally distressing) stories that reveal Twain’s discovery of the Nevada silver boom, a young and bustling San Francisco, and points even further west. His homespun style is deceptively rich and nutritious. Hours after the reading, I found myself pondering various aspects of his tales. Twain started what was meant to be a three month journey as an eager explorer and a keen observer. And that is how, six years later, he ended the journey. One can easily imagine Twain telling these stories with half-smiling eyes, and that for him, no experience is complete until he has told the story.

Greenman's reading of Twain is perfect, if not authentically like the old rascal himself.

Positively entertaining and eye opening regarding life a hundred plus years ago. What an amazingly life Samuel Clemens had. Wish his last years had been more peaceful.

Another great example of MT's style if writing and wit.

A very extensive and veried adventure of the author; covering everything from the deserts of Nevada, to the high Sierras of California, to the founding and early workings of Mormonism, and to the tropics of Hawaii. the reader as always did an astounding job. You felt you were listening to Mark Twain himself! Thank you again Mr. Greenman for your great talent in Reading!

This book takes you to the real old west with great stories, fascinating characters, great humor and a few lies. Mark Twain lived it for real and put his heart into the telling of it. John Greenman is an excellent and talented reader.

Great stories and adventures. Mark Twain’s humor is perfect for me as I imagine him grinning and chuckling to himself as he writes. This book is rich and chock full of yarns, some more factual than others. The reader is absolutely right on. His tone makes this book much more enjoyable than if I read it myself. Thank you for brining Mark Twain to life in such a generous way.
