Prepare to be torn.

I have been a rabid science fiction fan/reader sense before I could read & this series has me totally confused. The writer is the best audio book reader I have come across on Librivox to this day. His tone, timbre, annunciation & pace is fantastic. He doesn't try to hard to do different voices which is miserable at times. As far as content & storyline go it's the most boring book or series I've ever encountered, nothing happens till the end of the final book, no hard science, just a story about the life of a good man & yet....I was hopelessly addicted with in the first 20 min. I couldn't break away, I was desperate to listen to the whole story to see where Ishmael & his journey would go. This is NOT hard science space opera or even a fast paced story but you will be drawn helplessly in by his character development & narration. Listening to the main character grow into a adult is spellbinding. This man could read a cook book & I would probably be entranced. Give this book a try & enjoy the ride.

what a brilliant story. All six books had me waiting for each chapter, each development and each resolution. The characters are well rounded, the science is just a footnote to the story. The author doesn't try to blind the listener with hours of scientific explanation but creates just enough believability in the technical that it is secondary to the events and story. The stories are well read even if written in red (sorry but that is what it sounds like):P . Thoroughly enjoyable takes that I recommend to anyone

The author / reader has held my attention over the course of five books. The sixth opens with Captain Wong now in his 40’s, and 20+ years into his career—What a trip! And more to come… The character again has to choose which direction he will take. Real life tension mixed in with practical day to day life. I really like this story; characters, plot, and situations. And with a projected 150 year life span there is plenty of room to grow!

This was supposed to be 5 stars & would've given it more! Have thoroughly enjoyed this series of tales and am just about to search for more from Nathan Lowell. What a treat it's been to listen to these journeys while on my own travels on the underground or walking through the city on my way to & from work, keeping me company and entertained; occasionally lengthening my journey just so I could listen some more.
EXCELLENT SERIES

I didn't want it to end but it was a good place to end it. Very unpredictable and enjoyable story. Parts were comedic, tragic and erotic (not pornographic). Recommended for all adults especially enthusiasts of clothes, food and coffee among other things.
