Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the French Revolution, The Scarlet Pimpernel follows the daring exploits of Sir Percy Blakeney, a seemingly foppish English aristocrat who leads a double life as the elusive hero known only as the Scarlet Pimpernel. With wit and cunning, he orchestrates daring rescues of those condemned to the guillotine, risking his own life to save others.

As the revolutionaries tighten their grip on France, the stakes rise for Sir Percy and his beloved, Marguerite St. Just. Torn between loyalty to his country and his love for Marguerite, who is unwittingly entangled in the revolutionary fervor, Percy must navigate a web of intrigue and danger. The tension escalates as the ruthless agent Chauvelin seeks to unmask the Pimpernel and thwart his noble efforts.

Baroness Emma Orczy's novel blends adventure, romance, and mystery, creating a rich tapestry of heroism and sacrifice. With its memorable characters and thrilling escapades, The Scarlet Pimpernel remains a captivating exploration of identity and courage in the face of tyranny.

Named a Car

My wife loves the story so well, her scarlet red BMW has a personalized license plate PIMPRNL. And the reader is fabulous. Quite the story teller...

queen of the readers

this is my first time listening to Karen Savage but it won't be my last. I think that she speaks the queen's English better than HRH herself and I was truly amazed to learn that she is actually from Texas the novel is very fast paced and the baroness has not wasted any text on unnecessary diversions or flowery explanations. the combination of the precise reading and the economic writing is that this story zips along and you really don't want to press the stop button. this was an excellent listen and I heartily recommend it..

wonderful

i had to read this for school and thought it would be boring, and at first it was a little, so i decided to listen to the audio book instead. along with Karen savage's wonderful voice and both French and english pronunciation, it was so intriguing and I ended up listening to the whole thing in two days instead of reading it slowly like they told us too because I liked it so much. It's jammed packed With action romance and anticipation. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good read.

very entertaining

in spite of the author's conservative views on things like gender roles, class Society (to her nobles are truly noble, not just privileged), or the right of the exploited to defend themselves, as per the French Revolution, this is a great read. if you are looking for pace, look no further! The reading is also excellent. I heartily recommend it!

Wonderful! I’ve listened to it twice and it never fails to keep me on my toes. Karen savage is by far the best narrator I have ever listened to. I also highly recommend others of the scarlet pimpernel series.each one is an amazing account of how the mysterious hero thwarts his enemies and uses his witty jokes to make them still angrier!!!!!!

Excellently read!

Karen Savage is one of the best readers on Librivox, in my opinion, and she did an amazing job with this book. Good use of different accents, good pronunciation, of the French words, and all round very engaging. The story itself kept me on the edge of my seat! Such loveable characters along side a believable and passionate villian.

Excellent story, very well read

Another great read by Karen Savage, who is now my favorite Librivox reader. She provides just enough variation of characters' dialogues to give them life and personality, without going so far to be annoying. And this excellent story provided her with many interesting characters to bring to life.
