Band Remotes
The Bridge
I was a little young for some of the Big Bands, however my neighbor was Murray Mecekren the Trombone/Sax player for Harry James and other, it was pure joy to hear him practice. Doubt that I spelled his name correctly. Then years later I acquired a good buddy name Herb Jefferies, who was with Duke Ellington for some time, and he is still singing. Last LP I got of his was "Bronze Buckaroo Rides Again," nice LP on CD. I was told by Herb and a friend of his that Steve Allen liked Murray so much that he snatched up everything he could find of his playing, and re-recorded them, then sent out those recordings to his friends. To me, the Big Band Remotes are a way of catching up with some of the good music of the time. My thanks go out to those who saved this stuff, and those who keep it available to us.
The magic of OTR at its best
Daniel Beller
It is a delight that the Internet Archive makes available such a vast vault of OTR to the world. The Band Remotes, appearances of Bands for Radio transcribed to 14" 33 1/3 rpm acetates, preserved the magic of the golden era of radio. All the performances in this collection as well as in the BAND REMOTES one, are top notch, and a real joy. They bring alive an era of great music and musicians, that even 60 years after, are unsurpassed.
Fantastic!

PatonsPage
Basie's great 1953 Big Band playing some wonderfully recorded sets from his gig at Birdland over the first two weeks of the year.

I grew up listening to some of these Big Bands as a youth in the late 40's early 50's. Listening to these makes everything seem so much better.
marvelous airchecks
The Reaper
Great recordings, really fun to listen to with good sound. The Count Basie, Gene Krupa and Fletcher Henderson sessions are hitting the spot for me tonight.
Priceless
