Great Crime Series
jtyroler
Although some of the episodes aren't about actual crimes, like a hidden baseball bat, these stories and the guest armchair detectives are entertaining and, if you don't know the answer to whodunnit, Ellery Queen will give a logical explanation of why that person is guilty. Sometimes the clues are something that seems very trivial and sometimes Ellery Queen will have solved the case so quickly, it can be frustrating - even his costars or fellow detectives get angry with him. Usually working with Ellery is his secretary Nikki Porter, his father, Inspector Richard Queen, and the police officer of questionable skill, Sergeant Velie. However, occasionally, like in "The Case of the Vanishing Magician," Ellery Queen solves the mystery by using clues that he would not have known about - in this case, talk among a group of retired vaudevillians in their home - the at home audience would have heard one or more important clue, but the Ellery Queen character was not there during that conversation.
