Mark Trail, children's radio series

Among the shows aimed at kids, Mark Trail ranks slightly above average. The idea of conservation is one far ahead of its time and propelled by the newspaper comic strip this one should have been better. Sound quality of the episodes is excellent and actors are capable enough. What is lacking are the scripts. Compared with series like the lone ranger and challenge of the Yukon, this one comes up weaker. As is so often the case, the "greed for gold" to borrow from Sgt. Preston, is the motive for breaking laws and the ethics of the era. Sadly, both plots and bad guys are less sophisticated than in the other series. I wish it was better written. The environment and the future of earth deserved better.
