Sir Arthur Conan Doyle A Study In Scarlet 1978

(4.6 étoiles; 52 critiques)

Dramatised for radio by Michael Hardwick, this adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective novel brings to life the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. An American is found dead in an empty house on Brixton Road, leaving Inspector Gregson puzzled. He consults the eccentric Sherlock Holmes, who, along with Dr. Watson, takes on the mystery.

The production features a talented cast including Robert Powell as Sherlock Holmes and Dinsdale Landen as Dr. Watson, among others. This adaptation captures the essence of the original story, where Holmes describes the murder investigation as his 'study in scarlet'.

FUN TO LISTEN TO!

Love the voice acting and sound effects. The way Holmes and Watson speak to each other conveys the warm friendship, allowing Holmes to seem intelligent without seeming mean or condescending and Watson to appear normal and relatable without seeming dull or dimwitted. Something I hate many movie renditions for is they either make Holmes seem mean and unduly haughty and/or Watson seem dim-witted or on par with Lestrade. So far this avoids that, quite nicely.

Dramatization of this story is very rare. In this case we'll done. (rare, well done. now I want a steak). It is only too bad that 3/4 of the book has been left out.
